About The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead begins with sheriff’s deputy Rick Grimes waking up from a coma to find a post-apocalyptic world that’s dominated by flesh-eating zombies. He sets out to reunite his family and encounters many other survivors along the way.  The series was developed by Frank Darabont and based on the comic book series of the same name by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard.  The show is filmed predominately in Georgia.  To date, it reigns as the most-watched drama series telecast in basic cable history.

Quick Facts:
-HBO execs passed on The Walking Dead because they thought it was too violent.

-Andrew Lincoln, Lauren Cohan, David Morrissey and Lennie James are all British.

-During an interview, Robert Kirkman claimed Norman Reedus (Daryl) originally auditioned for the part of Merle Dixon. He was rejected, but his audition so intrigued the show-runners that they created the part of Daryl just for him.

-All of the principal actors have a “Last Supper” the day they film their death scenes.

-The word “zombie” is never used.

-Green screens and blue screens are used often.

-Walkers are instructed to act like they’re coming out of a bar at 2 a.m.

-The walkers also don’t blink. In post-production, they try to edit all blinking out.

-Rick Grimes is from the fictitious King County, Georgia.

-When filming the first episode, unsuspecting neighbors called police believing there was a sniper nearby.  A real SWAT team showed up to handle the chaos.

-As the seasons progress, the walker’s makeup becomes more grey and morbid to indicate further decay with the passage of time.
